This book is curated by two renaissance men, Adrian Cheng and John Dodelande. Both are collectors, connoisseurs and business leaders. Cheng is Chinese, from Hong Kong, Founder of the K11 brand and the K11 Art Foundation, and CEO of the New World Group. He is one of the most influential voices in the global art world. Dodelande is French and active on the global art scene; a Silk Road entrepreneur with interests in real estate, agriculture and food processing, he lives in Georgia.

The book spotlights 100 works of contemporary Chinese art against a background of the totality of Chinese culture dating from the Neolithic Age.

This anthology is Cheng's and Dodelande's personal selection of works that they believe will illuminate an understanding of contemporary Chinese Art as well as modern China.  It features essays and commentary by Philip Tinari of the UCAA in Beijing, Alexandra Munroe of the Guggenheim in New York, and Karen Smith of OCAT Contemporary Art Terminal in Xi'an. The book is a work of art in its own right.  Assouline's Ultimate Collection is a homage to the art of luxury bookmaking. At 35 cm wide and 43 cm long, this extra-large volume is hand-bound using traditional techniques, with colour plates hand-tipped on art-quality paper.  It comes in a silk clamshell presentation case.
