Chinese Art: The Impossible Collection
Chinese Art: The Impossible Collection

Co-authored by Adrian Cheng and John Dodelande, the oversized volume, part of Assouline’s Ultimate Collection, is an homage to the art of luxury bookmaking. It is hand-bound using traditional techniques, with several of the plates hand-tipped on art-quality paper, to respectively exhibit the works of art in the best, most elevated form. The choice of works in this book allows for an exploration of artists’ key role as observers, participants, commentators. That singular function of art is further elucidated in the scholarly introductions and captions by art historians Philip Tinari, Alexandra Munroe and Karen Smith. Chinese Art: The Impossible Collection is the first monograph to look at present-day Chinese art and society in this way. A globally exclusive clamshell featuring the work The Garden (2017) by Zhang Enli is available at K11 Design Store and K11 App.
