Product Information

The famille rose wares, a rose-coloured enamel which makes up a characteristic colour in the palette, became especially popular during the reign of Yongzheng (1722-35) in the Qing dynasty (1644-1912). Design of this plate was inspired by its prototype, exclusively illustrated by guangcai master Xu Enfu (許恩福) in Guangzhou, who collaborates with K11 Craft & Guild Foundation on guangcai project.

With an East meets West fusion, the plate is decorated with fine overglazed western roses embedded amid leafy floral sprays in a meaningful mix (Manhua design) - peonies that symbolise wealth and fortune, calla lilies for purity and nobleness, dianthus flowers for talent and flair, morning glories for marital bliss, chrysanthemums for virtues and longevity, because its name sounds similar to the word 久jiu, meaning long enduring.

Master Xu chose to colour every plate uniquely with the technique Decal Transfer, i.e. he used a ceramic decal that was printed with overglaze paints, soaked it in water before positioning it on the porcelain. A decal is an outline of an image that is left on the porcelain ware after firing. The exquisite colours were then hand-painted with extreme care, making every piece a one-of-a-kind collectible item.
