Limited editions of Ruinart Blanc de Blancs magnum champagne in Guangcai-painted Second Skins.

To promote the appreciation of Guangcai craftsmanship, K11 Craft & Guild Foundation (“KCG”), a registered charitable institution in Hong Kong founded by Adrian Cheng in 2018, rolls out the latest exclusive collaboration with the first established House of Champagne and a symbol of French art de vivre, Ruinart for the creation of a limited edition on, 100 bottles of Ruinart Blanc de Blancs magnum champagne in Guangcai-painted Second Skins available at K11 MUSEA in December 2022.

As a national-level intangible cultural heritage, with over 300-year history, Guangcai is a Cantonese tradition of hand-painting art form dates back to the Ming dynasty. However, it is now fast-disappearing with only a few craftsmen left globally. With the vision of conserving and rejuvenating Chinese artisanship, KCG rolls out this partnership with Ruinart to marry the art forms, a juxtaposition of East and West, while injecting modernism into traditions. Artisans of KAI CHUK Guangcai, founded by two millennial craftsmen and designers who focus on the legacy and rejuvenation of Guangcai, are invited to hand paint this limited edition. Part of the proceeds from this collaboration will fund KCG and the artisans.

“We are delighted to collaborate with the first established House of Champagne, Ruinart. K11 Craft & Guild Foundation is dedicated to conserving and rejuvenating the fast disappearing Chinese craftsmanship. The collaboration is not only to celebrate artistry exchange, but more importantly supporting the Guangcai artisans.” said Jay Liu, General Manager, Strategic Alliances of New World Development.

“Ruinart, the first-established champagne house, cherishes and protects a craftmanship in the champagne making that is almost 300 years old. Because of that heritage, we feel an authentic connection to the artisans who keep alive the legacy of Guangcai. Like our bottles, every piece painted by these craftsmen is a unique endeavor to celebrate culture and share the beauty of nature.” said Fabien Vallérian, Ruinart, International Director of Arts & Culture

This Limited Edition is created on the Ruinart Blanc de Blancs champagne in Magnum format. The design sheds spotlight on Peony, which has been nobly recognised as the “King of Flowers” by Chinese poets since the Tang Dynasty. Peony symbolizes auspicious, elegance, grace and wealth, which also resembles the tasting experience of Ruinart – harmonious, delicate and fresh as it comes with various vibrant colors.

Following the signature Guangcai motif of peony, the splendid gold colour delicately painted with a signature Guangcai skillset gilding.  Peonies rest against a scenery of the deconstructed painted word ‘peony’ in Chinese character, adding a touch of modern abstraction into the design.
