Extending beyond his moniker of ‘Godfather of Toy Figures’, contemporary artist Michael Lau has designed a red packet pair in his surrealistic visual style. Honouring the tradition of giving red packets in twos, golden gilded flowers come together to welcome a new year blooming with beauty, grace, and prosperity.
Created at the height of the pandemic, he produced the “Flowers” series – a body of work consisting of predominately large-scale floral paintings. The vibrant and eccentric floral themed works not only evoke the message of joy and hope, but he also paid homage to street art references. The use of spray paint, smear, collage as well as Michael’s unique take of using acrylic paint to mimic the visual effects of street art graffiti are all present in the canvases.
